Word is getting out that Mac is getting its dose of viruses although the truth is they weren’t really all that safe in the first place, just safer by comparison. Security is never really a thing we leave to the manufacturers because if we did, it would be at our peril. New forms of viruses, trojans, malware and clickjacking storm the Web every day compromising servers and records, stealing sensitive data from customers and databases etc. A more active approach of a security breach may come in the form of hacking or the defacing of influential websites owned by authorities.
Backgroundcheck.org which last released the World of Lost Smartphones infographic has now released another one detailing the State of IT Security today. In it we see that Verizon reported a billion compromised records and 2,000 breaches in the last eight years. Last year alone, there were more than 800 data breach incidents, three-quarters of which were targeted at food and accommodation services and retail trade.
