Back in 2010, Apple attempted to put a U.S. ban on HTC phones. Over the years, the two sides have engaged in a long-standing feud that HTC chairwoman Cher Wang stated in August there were no plans of settling within sight. However, in a surprising turn of events, both companies have reached a "global settlement" to end their dispute with a 10-year license agreement, which covers current and future patents held by both parties.
"HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
"We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC," said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. "We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation."
Clearly, with their disagreement in the rear-view mirror, both sides are refocusing their attention on creating truly innovative products for their consumers. We can all be happy for that.
